Carrier Safety Panel Looks to Improve Parking

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee has scheduled virtual public meetings for Dec. 17-18, beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
The tentative agenda includes a presentation on federal and state efforts to increase truck parking and a review of commercial motor vehicle crash data trends and seat belt use.
The agency will seek the committee’s guidance on recommendations for additional government and private-sector actions that should be considered to increase parking, and how to increase seat belt use among CMV drivers.
Registration is required to attend the meetings.

Allina Healthfaces more than $83,000 in proposed fines related to nurses injured in workplace violence at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis over the past year.
According to a report this week, the fines by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry have not been made public while Allina contests them.
The fines were disclosed Tuesday by the Minnesota Nurses Association, the union representing registered nurses in most Twin Cities hospitals.
Allina owns or operates 12 hospitals and more than 90 clinics throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

The National Safety Council has received three federal pass-through grants totaling more than $950,000 to increase awareness of the impact of traffic crashes on employers, equip companies with tools to keep their employees safe on the road and improve transportation safety outcomes through the Our Driving Concern (ODC) program.
The three grants were from the Texas Department of Transportation, Ohio Department of Public Safety and Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
The awards are the result of inclusion in each state’s Highway Safety Plan priority programs funded by the U.S. DOT National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They will support NSC efforts to protect roadway users and promote safety in each of the states.
