Falling Crane Kills One
- One construction worker was killed and two were injured when a crane collapsed in Fort Lauderdale.
- The fire chief said segments were added to the crane when the platform carrying the crane became unstable. An investigation is on-going.
- The construction worker fell to his death when the crane collapsed. Two other individuals sustained injuries in their vehicle when the crane fell.

Catastrophe: No Warning, No Escape
- Workers on the Francis Scott Key Bridge were left completely unaware of the pending disaster when the cargo ship Dali hit the bridge. Could proper safety protocols have prevented their deaths?
- Six construction who worked for construction company Brawner Builders were filling potholes when the bridge collapsed killing all six.
- Occupational and Safety Administration Regulations are somewhat vague, but Maryland’s OSHA says at least one safety boat must be available. The Coast Guard says it saw no skiff in the water, and satellite images do not show the presence of a boat.
- Early warning might have allowed the workers to get to the boat. An investigation is on-going.
Home Manufacturer Facing OSHA Fines
- One of the largest manufacturers of modular homes is facing thousands of dollars in fines courtesy of OSHA.
- The Occupational Health and Safety Administration has dinged Palm Harbor Homes for violating health and safety regulations at its Austin facility.
- Palm Harbor was cited for 25 serious violations and two not so serious, the most serious of which took place in its roofing department.
- Palm Harbor is no stranger to health and safety violations having been cited 38 times in the past nine years, according to OSHA.
Emergency Worker Stabbed
- A Minnesota ER worker was injured after being stabbed by a disturbed patient. His condition has not been released.
- The worker was stabbed by a patient with mental issues who apparently got violent with the staff. He was then alleged to have stabbed the worker
- The individual was eventually subdued by hospital security and other staff.
- The individual, who is already on probation, is in jail pending charges for assault.
Construction Worker Plummets to Death
- A construction worker fell to his death at a West Palm Beach building site. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
- The 37 year-old construction worker was on the 15 floor of an apartment complex when he fell crashing through plywood and metal.
- He was pronounced dead at the scene. OSHA is currently assessing the site’s safety.
- In an earlier incident a construction worker in Miami-Dade almost fell to his death but was saved by fire and rescue.
Worker Injured by Errant SUV
- A worker at a New Jersey medical facility was injured when an SUV crashed into the building.
- A Volkswagon Atlas careened into the building housing NovaCare Rehabilitation Center. The driver said he was trying to park in a handicapped spot when the vehicle suddenly accelerated.
- The worker refused medical treatment. The building has been closed for the time being because it’s deemed structurally unsafe.
- The driver was not injured. The condition of the Atlas is not known.
