Washington Solar Firm Again Cited in Falls

Purelight Power LLC has been fined more than $250,000 by Washington State Department of Labor & Industries for its latest violations.
The residential solar panel installation firm formerly Solgen Power has repeatedly failed to protect its workers from the risk of falling off the roofs they work on, according to the agency.
In January and February, the company was fined $99,000 and $105,600, respectively, for violations related to workers on a roof without a fall protection system. Those followed a $66,000 fine assessed last year in a similar violation.
More than 1,600 workers are injured in falls every year in Washington.

The Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is making $10.5 million in grant funding available to help provide mine safety training for the nation’s miners.
MSHA will award these grants as part of its fiscal year 2025 State Grants Program to fund the delivery of federally mandated training and re-training for miners who work at surface, underground coal, and metal and nonmetal mines throughout the U.S.
State, tribal, and territorial governments are eligible to apply. MSHA may fund up to 80% of the program costs under a state grant, with the recipient required to provide at least 20% of the total program costs.
Grant applications must be submitted by Sept. 9, 2025, and grants will be awarded on or before Sept. 30, 2025.

Pacific Rim Industrial Insulation Ltd. has been fined CA$210,000 after pleading guilty to an occupational health and safety violation that resulted in the death of an employee at a production facility north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, in June 2023.
The company last week was convicted of failing to ensure a worker used a travel restraint system where there was a risk of falling three meters or more.
The company was also ordered to undergo 18 months of enhanced regulatory supervision.

Concentra said last week that, as of June 30, 2025, it was operating 628 occupational health centers, compared to 547 at the end of Q2 2024.
The Addison, Texas-based operator of occupational health centers said the total number of onsite health clinics reached 406, compared to 154 at the end of Q2 2024
The acquisition of Pivot on-site health clinics doubled the size of their on-site health clinic segment, enhancing their competitive position, the company said.
