Fed-OSHA cites Atlanta recycler for chemical exposures
Fed-OSHA has cited an Atlanta recycling company for allegedly exposing employees to hazardous chemicals without warning them of the risks, the third time since 2019 the company has been cited for similar violations. The agency has proposed nearly $312,000 in penalties. News & Observer
After employee broke leg on the job, boss helped ICE arrest him
When a construction worker reported falling off of a ladder and breaking his leg while on the job in 2017, his boss “retaliated,” resulting in the worker’s arrest by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement in Massachusetts, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. A Massachusetts federal jury also found the CEO and his company unlawfully retaliated against the employee, who has been awarded $650,000 in damages. Miami Herald
Study addresses relationship between cannabis use, pulmonary disease and COVID-19
In a new study of around half a million participants, researchers used data to evaluate the effect of cannabis on COVID-19 infection and to determine whether cannabis lung damage might facilitate COVID-19 infection in formerly regular users. The researchers found cannabis can produce lung diseases with increasing years of use, and cause weakening in the immune system, leading to pneumonia. The Fresh Toast
