New York lawmakers target Staten Island Amazon warehouse
Following the recent release of a report by an advocacy group finding 15 out of every 100 employees were injured at the facility in 2018, dozens of New York lawmakers have demanded safety improvements at Amazon’s Staten Island warehouse. The report lands during the company’s “peak season” from Thanksgiving through New Years, when workers say they are forced to work mandatory overtime under continuous pressure to increase speeds. Former pro hockey player seriously injured in heavy machinery accident
A 59-year-old former professional hockey player was severely injured in a heavy machinery accident at a Grand Rapids, Minnesota paper mill over the weekend. Canada: Toronto launches construction safety pilot
Toronto has more construction cranes at work than any other city in North America, and three months after a woman was struck and killed by a cement truck, the city has launched a pilot program aimed at reducing the impacts of construction on road safety and traffic. The pilot is modeled after a program used in Seattle and will run until next December, at which point the city may choose to expand it to other neighborhoods. Toronto.com
