IOSH cites ADM, contractor following fatal silo fire and explosion
Iowa OSHA has proposed fines for Archer Daniels Midland and a construction contractor following a fire and explosion that killed one firefighter and critically injured another in January in eastern Iowa. ADM was issued five violations for a total of nearly $55,900. Among other cited violations, IOSH charges the company did not clearly define the roles and duties of personnel. Two recent journal articles indicate that both genetic and environmental factors play significant roles in the onset of vitiligo, an autoimmune disease that results in the loss of color in blotches of skin, but that there are still many other as-yet unidentified factors that contribute to the onset of the disease.
