Authorities warn of fake Nevada OSHA inspectors
The Nevada Division of Industrial Relations has warned businesses to be on the alert for imposters who are claiming to be Nevada OSHA inspectors in the northern part of the state. The agency advises employers that its inspecotors cannot issue citations and fines on the spot. KLAS (Las Vegas)
Nursing home owner fined after death of employee
A Tonawanda, New York nursing home allegedly waited six days before informing Fed-OSHA of the death of an employee from COVID-19, according to the agency, which fined the owner of the facility more than $11,500 for two related violations. Buffalo News
Florida construction worker falls 10 stories to death
A 49-year-old construction worker died Wednesday after falling 10 stories from a Jacksonville Beach condominium complex balcony. He reportedly was wearing a safety harness, but at some point it became dislodged. First Coast News
Employee dies at Wisconsin furniture factory
Fed-OSHA is investigating a death that occurred last week at an Arcadia, Wisconsin furniture manufacturer. Neither the agency nor the company offered any information about the circumstances of the employee’s death. In 2016, the company agreed to pay $1.75 million in penalties and improve workplace safety as part of a settlement with the Fed-OSHA, which determined in 2015 that plant employees experienced more than 1,000 work-related injuries in the previous 3½ years that were severe enough to have required medical treatment beyond first aid. Past incident involving demo contractor back in focus after plant collapse
A fatal incident that occurred just over five years ago in Beverly, Ohio involving a demolition company is coming back into focus after Wednesday’s structural collapse at a former power plant near the village of Manchester, in which two employees were still missing last week. The company was fined more than $10,000 in connection with the 2015 incident, which caused the death of the company’s president when collapsing towers caused a cable to strike his legs. Employee hospitalized after fall at Massachusetts gelatin plant
An employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a fall at a gelatin plant in Peabody, Massachusetts on Tuesday. The incident occurred near storage tanks, in a different area of the plant than where another employee fell 25 to 30 feet in October. Fed-OSHA is investigating both incidents. Salem News
