New Jersey cites Kearny’s public works department
The New Jersey Department of Labor has cited Kearny’s Department of Public Works for more than a dozen serious health and safety violations at an inspection earlier this year. Among other findings, the April 21 inspection found Kearny DPW officials stored oxygen cylinders next to oil drums and an acetylene tank, in violation of safety rules that called for cylinders to be kept away from flammable materials. Fed-OSHA may fine Pennsylvania mail processing center $236K
Following a complaint inspection, Fed-OSHA may fine a Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania United States Postal Service mail-processing facility more than $236,000 for violations including blocked exits, fire extinguishers not readily accessible, and workspace in front of electrical equipment. According to the Department of Labor, the postal service is contesting the violations. WFMZ
Wisconsin university campus designated official training center
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville was recently designated as an official Mid-America OSHA Education Center training site, making it one of the only universities with a construction management program to be so designated. The university’s Department of Industrial Studies plans to collaborate with industry partners to determine their OSHA training needs and offer those courses within the next year.
