Company Cited for Fall

• The Office of Occupational Safety and Health slammed a window washing company with thousands in fines, after an employee fell to his death last October.
• Despite the company’s denials, OSHA says faulty equipment is to blame for an employee falling 29 stories, while cleaning windows on a high-rise.
• The employers’ violations are numerous. Besides faulty equipment, it also failed to properly train its workers.
• This is not the first time this window washing company has been in trouble with OSHA. Its predecessor company was also cited in 2019 for similar equipment failures.

Construction Industry Confronts Mental Health

• The construction industry is grappling with a crisis in mental health, according to an industry publication.
• The suicide rate for men in the construction industry is five times greater than the fatality rate for all work-related injuries in construction, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
• The industry group says that it’s hardly surprising given the long, grueling hours and the dangerous nature of the work.
• The stigma of mental illness doesn’t help. The shortage of labor is also playing a role in an overall increase in construction work-related injuries.

• An auto parts supplier with numerous safety violations has reached a settlement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
• Auto Parts LLC faces thousands in fines for numerous violations, leading to two Serious and Willful citations.
• The company has over 20 safety infractions, including failure to protect employees from machine operation hazards.
• According to part of the settlement, Auto Parts, LLC pays over $800,000 dollars in fines and will remediate all the hazards.

• A large Ohio bleach packager faces over $30,000 in fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
• The company is responsible for a very large leak on county property that occurred back in January.
• Two workers were injured by the leak, which was the result of a cracked pipe.
• The company has been cited for four serious violations including failure to provide tight fitting respirators for employees with facial hair.

Dangerous Service Dog Wreaks Havoc

• A service dog went on a rampage at Denver International Airport biting a worker.
• Allegedly, an airline worker was bitten in the face while its owner was waiting to board a flight.
• According to medical experts, the bite registered a five on the dog-bite scale which deems the dog dangerous. Level one is obnoxious.
• Bella, the Belgian Malinois allegedly responsible for the attack, is in quarantine. An investigation is on-going.
