Acting DoL Chief Takes Heat Rule Push on Road

U.S. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su said that there are more than 300 heat investigations ongoing in Florida, in a swing through the state this week.
Gov. Ron DeSantis in April signed a bill into law, which states local governments can’t implement any heat protections above what federal law requires. That goes into effect on July 1.
Su said that until a national heat standard is in place, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has other tools to target heat issues, including the National Emphasis Program (NEP).
Since coming into effect in April 2022, NEP has put in place policies and procedures to identify and eliminate or reduce worker exposures to occupational heat-related illnesses and injuries in general industry, construction, maritime, and agriculture.
It targets specific industries expected to have the highest exposures to heat-related hazards and resulting illnesses and deaths.

Many FOX Television Stations on Wednesday and Thursday carried stories on the OSHA Heat Safety Tool which was introduced earlier this year.
Fox owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include outlets in nine of the top 10 largest designated market areas.
As of Thursday, some 75 million Americans are under an excessive heat warning or heat advisory, including first-ever warnings issued in places like New Hampshire and Maine.
