OSHA Seeks to Fill Four Spots on Advisory Committee
- OSHA is seeking nominations for four seats on its National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH), each for a two-year term.
- The nominations are for one public, one labor and one management representative, and one occupational safety professional, and are due Aug. 16.
- The current terms of labor representative Rebecca Reindel, safety representative Kathleen Dobson, management representative John Dony, and public representative Nancy Daraiseh, are set to expire on Jan. 16, 2025.
- According to the agency’s notice, panel members are selected based on their experience, knowledge and competence in the field of occupational safety and health. They serve two-year terms.
- The 12-member panel advises, consults with and makes recommendations to the secretaries of Health and Human Services and Labor related to the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.

Safety Groups Agree on Collaboration Effort
- The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) said it will collaborate with three other safety organizations to improve worker safety and health.
- ASSP is extending an existing alliance with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and creating new strategic partnerships with the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) and Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA).
- “Our mutual interests in improving the well-being of workers create valuable opportunities to work together,” ASSP President Pam Walaski said in a statement.
- In recent years, ASSP and NIOSH have worked together on conducting and implementing workplace safety research.
- ASSP will work with ISEA to support the development of voluntary national consensus standards, among other activities.
- The collaboration with MCAA will expand ASSP’s access to safety professionals through greater involvement in the contractors group’s annual safety and health conference.

Massachusetts Sets Hearing on Changes to State Employees Plan
- The Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards will hold a public hearing on July 23 on proposed changes to 454 CMR 25, the state’s developmental plan for occupational safety and health, applicable only to State and local government employees.
- The proposed changes are designed to adopt recent upgrades to federal safety requirements and clarify DLS’ procedures, according to the agency’s notice.
