Maryland Governor Calls for State Probe of Baltimore Heat Death
- Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is calling for a state investigation of the death of a Baltimore city employee who died from hyperthermia.
- The employee worked for the city’s Department of Public Works, which was the target of a scathing 46-page report published recently by the city’s inspector general.
- The report said DPW workers were not given adequate access to air conditioning, ice and water during the region’s hottest summer days.

Army Engineers, ASSP Sign Sharing Agreement
- The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance worker safety.
- The 10-year agreement inked on Wednesday defines shared principles and aims to improve employee safety training, advance occupational health practices and expand the use of safety and health management systems.
- ASSP and the Corps will also continue to collaborate on developing voluntary national consensus standards, including standards on fall protection, construction and demolition practices.

Transportation Tank Cleaning REP Comes to OSHA Southwest Region
- Transportation tank cleaning operations are in focus in OSHA Region 6’s updated and renewed Regional Emphasis Program that went into effect on Aug. 1.
- It applies to workplaces in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and worksites in New Mexico under federal authority.
- The program will remain in effect until July 31, 2028, with possible extensions.
