Safety Coalition Wants More From Employers Than Just Compliance

  • The Intersociety Forum of more than 20 organizations is calling for employers to go beyond legal compliance and adopt risk-based safety and health strategies.
  • The coalition released a report earlier this week that highlights several ways a business model of safety and health can create a strategic advantage that powers positive business outcomes.
  • The Forum’s report identified three core principles for employers: Standards and worker well-being; Embracing risk and safety management systems; and, Revolutionizing recordkeeping for predictive insights.

Navy Sets April Joint Safety Symposium for DoD Staff

  • Department of Defense uniformed and civilian safety and occupational health professionals will have an opportunity to earn free continuing education credits and training at the Naval Safety and Environmental Training Center’s 33rd Annual Joint Safety and Environmental Professional Development Symposium next month.
  • The virtual, online program, April 21-25, includes sessions by the various services, including an April 21 session that will cover the Army Readiness Assessment Program (ARAP) and aviation safety advancements.
  • Video recordings of the training sessions also will be available to registered participants after the event ends.

OSHA Opens Workplace Safety Probe of Fatal Pennsylvania Hospital Attack

  • OSHA has opened an investigation at a York, Pennsylvania hospital, where a gunman attacked the ICU last month, leaving a police officer dead and five others wounded.
  • West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte was killed and two other officers were injured when police responded to the hospital and killed Archangel-Ortiz as he held a zip-tied staff member at gunpoint.
