Rawhide Western Town faces fines after worker dies
- A 30-year-old worker died after an incident at the Rawhide Western Town and Steakhouse at the Gila River Indian Community near Chandler Ariz.
- A federal investigation determined the fatality could have been prevented if the employer had implemented the required safety measures.
- The worker was driving a cargo scooter through what appeared to be an open gate and sustained severe injuries when they ran into a nylon tow strap strung across the opening.
- The agency cited Wild Horse Pass Development Center for two serious safety violations, and proposed $20,302, in penalties.
Teen dies after woodchipper incident
- A Pennsylvania teenager died after getting pulled into a wood chipper while working, state authorities said.
- Isiah M. Bedocs, 17, of Coplay, was helping with a tree removal job when his clothing got caught in the wood chipper.
- Bedocs was transported by helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital with “multiple traumatic injuries,” authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m.
- A GoFundMe page has raised more than $13,000 with a goal of $20,000 before the funeral.
Yellowstone Bear World responds to OSHA, PETA complaints
- OSHA is investigating Yellowstone Bear World in Idaho after accusations surfaced of employee endangerment at its facility.
- A notice was also sent to Bear World after the animal rights group PETA claimed an undercover investigator witnessed workers being sent into an enclosure with adult bears equipped with sticks to defend themselves.
- Yellowstone Bear World is a popular roadside driver through the wildlife park at Thornton, where tourists can see bears and other animals up close.
- “Yellowstone Bear World has a strong safety record, which demonstrates that the training and safety protocols in place are effective, and we expect them to remain that way into the future,” Courtney Ferguson said in a statement.
Dept. of Labor fines Wing Stop
- The operator of five Wing Stop franchise locations in Mississippi made employees pay for their uniforms, safety training, background checks and cash register shortages – and violated child labor regulations.
- Boss Wings Enterprises LLC has paid $114,427 in back wages, liquidated damages and civil penalties, according to The U.S. Department of Labor.
