Fall Protection Tops OSHA Citation Tables for 15th Year

• Fall Protection citations topped OSHA’s tally of most frequently cited workplace safety standards for fiscal 2025, the agency said last week.
• Disclosing its preliminary data at the 2025 NSC Safety Congress & Expo, OSHA said the list highlights persistent compliance issues and the need for stronger safety efforts across industries.
• Fiscal 2025 makes for the 15th consecutive year that Fall Protection-General Requirements tops the list, with 5,914 violations at latest count. The federal government’s fiscal year ends on Sept. 30.
• Another related citation, Fall Protection–Training Requirements, ranking as the eighth-most cited, with 1,907 instances.

Michigan Budget Would Make Workplaces “Less Safe”: MIOSH Chief

• The $78.5 billion state budget proposed by Michigan House Republicans would have a deleterious effect on workplace safety according to the director of the state’s Department of Labor and Opportunity.
• “Severe cuts to MIOSHA would make Michigan workplaces less safe by reducing business trainings and inspections by approximately 40%,” LEO Director Susan Corbin said in a Sept. 18 statement.
• The House Republican budget would eliminate hundreds of LEO employees and cut approximately $1.13 billion, or 47%, from the agency’s overall budget.
• Corbin also said that in current form, the budget is not in compliance with numerous state and federal laws across the department.
