Family Sues SpaceXAI Affiliates Over Worker’s Fatal Fall at Data Center
- The family of an employee who fell from a mezzanine at SpaceXAI’s Colossus II data center in Whitehaven, Memphis, Tenn. on Aug. 25, 2025, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit; Vicent died of his injuries on Feb. 26, 2026.
- The lawsuit, originally filed in Shelby County Circuit Court on Aug. 11 and moved to federal court on Sept. 11, names CTC Property LLC and MZX Tech LLC, both SpaceXAI affiliates, as defendants.
- In an answer filed Sept. 18, CTC Property and MZX Tech denied responsibility, alleging Vicent “failed to exercise reasonable care for his own safety,” including failing to properly observe the walking surface and surrounding conditions.
- This is not the first reported injury at one of SpaceXAI’s Mid-South facilities — in September 2025, a third-party vendor was electrocuted while working on electrical equipment at the company’s Stanton Road site.
Employer Fined $217K After Worker Dies in Lathe Entanglement
- Edmonton, Canada-based Rylex Machine & Supply Ltd. pleaded guilty Sept. 14 in the Edmonton Court of Justice to one count under Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Code for failing to provide safeguards against workers coming into contact with moving machinery parts, following the death of a worker at its east Edmonton facility.
- The worker was fatally injured in March 2024, when he became entangled in a manual lathe and was pulled into the machine’s rotating workpiece; the company had initially faced 12 counts under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Under a creative sentencing arrangement, $216,000 of the $217,000 fine will go to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology to purchase a dual-spindle lathe and support education promoting stronger workplace safety culture among future trades professionals, with the remaining $1,000 covering the victim fine surcharge.
- Rylex Machine & Supply was also placed under two years of enhanced regulatory supervision, and the company has up to 30 days to appeal the penalty.
Worker Dies After Car Falls on Him at Illinois Dealership
- A 33-year-old employee was killed Sept. 17 after a car fell on him at Midwest Autohaus, a car dealership in Skokie, Illinois, according to police.
- Skokie police and fire personnel responded around 9:15 p.m. and found the man unresponsive; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
- His name has not been released, and authorities are awaiting results from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the circumstances of his death.
- Police said there is no indication of foul play, though no further details have been released.
