Deadline Near to Appear at June OSHA Heat Rule Hearing
- OSHA is reminding stakeholders about a May 2 registration deadline for anyone interest in speaking at its June 16 virtual public hearing on its proposed rule to protect workers from hazardous heat exposure in indoor and outdoor workplaces.
- The standard would apply to all employers conducting outdoor and indoor work in all general industry, construction, maritime, and agriculture sectors where OSHA has jurisdiction, the rule says.
- The agency published the proposed rule on Aug. 30 and the public comment period closed Jan. 14.
- The public hearing on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings, will begin on June 16 at 9:30 a.m. EDT, and continue on subsequent weekdays if necessary.
- Those interested in speaking must complete a Notice of Intention to Appear form by May 2.

Transportation Fatalities Top Kansas Workplace Stats
- Transportation incidents make up 70% of all deadly work injuries in Kansas, Topeka news outlet KSNT reported.
- That compares to the national level of 37% of all fatal workplace injuries, according to the most recent Fatal Work Injuries report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
- The Kansas Department of Transportation’s 2023 work zone statistics report showed six deadly crashes resulted in nine deaths with each death attributed to drivers and not pedestrians.
- Workers aged 25 to 54 years old accounted for 45% of the work-related deaths in Kansas, according to the BLS report. Workers 55 years and older made up 49% of work-related deaths in 2023.
