One-third of Workers May Need to Lift or Carry up to 25 Pounds

• A light strength level, meaning workers may lift or carry up to 25 pounds, was required for 33.3% of workers in 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
• Among occupational groups, 60.9% of workers in food preparation and serving related occupations, 50.0% of workers in personal care and service occupations, and 47.7% of workers in sales and related occupations were required to have a light strength level.
• Reaching overhead was required occasionally for 66.8% of workers in installation, maintenance, and repair occupations and 49.6% of construction and extraction occupations.

OSHA Extends New York Noise Hazard REP

• OSHA has extended the New York regional emphasis program (REP) for selected industry classifications where employees are expected to be exposed to high noise levels, through September 2029.
• There are two elements of the program: an outreach component that will be conducted to raise employer and employee awareness of the hazards associated with exposure to high levels of noise; and, inspections targeting initiatives to reduce employee exposure to noise through enforcement.
• The extension has added several targeted industries, including: Dairy Product Manufacturing, Tortilla manufacturing, Fabricated metal product manufacturing, and, Household & institutional furniture & kitchen cabinet manufacturing.

Davey Tree Taps Phil Snyder as Safety VP

• Davey Tree has promoted Phil Snyder to vice president, health and safety. He joined Davey in 2008 via The Care of Trees (TCOT) acquisition. 
• Most recently, he was the vice president of East Atlantic operations for employee-owned Davey’s Residential/Commercial (R/C) services division.  Earlier in his career, he had more than a decade of experience in utility line services.
• Among his credentials, he is an industry-certified treecare safety professional (CTSP).
