10% Rise in Robot Density Cuts Injuries by 2%: New Research

  • Recent European research found that a 10% increase in robot density in manufacturing settings resulted in a 1.96 reduction in workplace injuries and about 0.1% fewer fatalities.
  • A study published in February by Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, surveyed 15 manufacturing industries across 18 European nations.
  • These results were most prominent in technology-intensive sectors and nations with strong worker protection.
  • In technological industries, the increase in robot adoption led to a three times greater reduction in fatalities (0.22%) and a five times greater reduction in injuries (9.98%) than the baseline.
