Oregon: SAIF offers free ag safety seminar next week in La Grande
SAIF is offering 29 free agricultural safety seminars in 17 cities across Oregon through March. The first will be in La Grande on October 28. The seminars will focus on four topics: respiratory personal protective equipment, working at elevation, safety leadership for anyone, and incident analysis. Employee killed at Georgia manufacturing plant

Fed-OSHA fines flavorings plant $223K after fatality
Fed-OSHA has cited Kerry Inc. for one willful and eight serious safety violations, handed down more than $223,000 in fines and entered it in the agency’s Severe Violator Enforcement Program after a worker died in a fall at the firm’s Greenville, Missouri liquid smoke production plant. South Carolina: Three nuclear fuel facility workers hospitalized
Three employees at the Westinghouse nuclear fuel facility southeast of Columbia, South Carolina last week were hospitalized following maintenance work on hydrofluoric acid process equipment. South Carolina OSHA was notified of the incident at the plant, where fuel for nuclear reactors is manufactured. No one was injured; the drum reportedly contained more than 70 grams of uranium. NIOSH: Employees at e-scrap plant had elevated lead
According to a report issued last month by National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which conducted metals and flame retardant evaluations in 2017 on at a New Hampshire e-scrap processing plant, employees working near a granulator at the facility were overexposed to airborne silver particles and those working near an e-scrap shredder had elevated levels of lead in their blood. Researchers also detected higher levels of some types of flame retardant chemicals on employees’ hands at the end of their shift than they did at the beginning. E-Scrap News
