Employee killed in forklift accident at Illinois food plant identified

The man killed in a workplace incident at a Stephenson County, Illinois food processing plant has been identified as a 45-year-old employee of another company. Safety training deadline approaches for New York City construction workers

The deadline for day laborers in New York City’s construction industry to receive mandatory to obtain site safety training, which is required under local law, is December 1. Starting Dec. 1, workers at major construction sites are required to have at least 30 hours of safety training, while supervisors must have at least 62 hours of training. Queens Daily Eagle

 

Montana slag plant under criminal investigation

U.S. Minerals, which has six manufacturing facilities in six states, is under an ongoing criminal investigation connected to safety and health hazards allegedly found in 2015 at the company’s plant in Anaconda, Montana’s slag pile, 130 acres of smelter waste from around 100 years of copper smelting. Fed-OSHA fined the company $106,800 for 19 violations in 2016, one of which charged workers did not have proper changing rooms or showering facilities, and another that alleged arsenic was found in the employees’ microwave. Fed-OSHA plans to increase workplace inspections in Midwest

As of October 1, Fed-OSHA has increase the number of safety and health inspections across the furniture making, cabinetmaking, wood products manufacturing, and construction industries, among others, in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri. The directive increases the probability of inspecting high hazard industry establishments with more than ten employees, which have not received a comprehensive inspection by Fed-OSHA since fiscal 2016.
