Fed-OSHA proposes more than $200K in fines for Wisconsin foundry
Fed-OSHA has fined a Marinette, Wisconsin foundry more than $200,000 after two employees were injured in separate incidents this year. The cited violations include fall protection, machine guarding and other hazards. The company behind the Houston’s Astroworld Festival, a two-day event with a sellout crowd of 50,000 that ended with eight people dead in an apparent crowd surge, was cited once for employee safety issues at its theater in Wallingford, Connecticut. Some New Hampshire business owners say they are not anti-vaccine, but that if new Fed-OSHA rules that mandate their employees get the COVID-19 vaccine or submit to weekly testing go into effect, they could lose a significant number of employees who either won’t get vaccinated or cannot afford weekly testing. Labor Department says truckers may be exempt from federal vaccine mandates
Despite concerns federal vaccine mandates would exacerbate transportation supply chain challenges, the mandate may have little effect on the trucking industry, because truckers may be exempt from new requirements. The emergency temporary standard does not apply to employees who “do not report to a workplace where other individuals such as coworkers or customers are present, employees while they are working from home, or employees who work exclusively outdoors,” according to Fed-OSHA’s summary of the new regulation.
