Fed-OSHA and local authorities are investigating the death of a worker on Saturday at a Georgia paper mill just north of the Florida state line. A law enforcement official says says workers failed to shut off power to a jammed conveyor belt, and when the belt restarted, the employee was thrown into industrial equipment and killed. Fed-OSHA inspecting four companies following fatal explosion in Maine

Four employers that were working at the site of a deadly propane explosion at an office building in mid-September are being investigated by Fed-OSHA. A 68-year-old fire captain was killed and six other firefighters, and a maintenance supervisor, were injured. Fire officials say a propane line buried under the parking lot had developed a leak prior to the explosion. Portland Press Herald

Labor Department calls Guam prison repeat violator

Guam’s prison is a repeat violator of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. According to an agency spokesperson, the island’s Department of Corrections was investigated in 2014 and 2016. The 2014 investigation resulted in $1.2 million in back wages paid to 163 employees. The 2016 investigation led to another $864,427of back wages paid to 197 employees. Pacific Daily News
