US will make large firms give paid time off for vaccinations

The federal government will require companies with at least 100 employees to provide paid time off for them to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and paid sick leave to recover from effects of the shots, part of a pending federal rule that will spell out how large employers will meet a requirement that employees be vaccinated or tested regularly for the virus. OR-OSHA fines landscaping business more than $14,000 after fatality

Oregon OSHA announced Monday it has fined a Wilsonville landscaping company more than $14,000 for safety violations after a temporary employee was killed by a fallen branch in Klamath Falls in April. The company had hired two people from an online job listing to cut and remove a roughly 60-foot-tall oak tree, when a branch toppled, hitting the one cutting firewood in the head, trapping and killing him. MIOSHA dismissing year-old COVID-19 workplace citation against city of Port Huron

Michigan officials have taken steps to dismiss a year-old coronavirus workplace citation issued by MIOSHA against the city of Port Huron. MIOSHA originally fined the city $6,300 for failure to require employees to wear face coverings, conduct and maintain records of daily self-screening entry protocols, and training employees on the virus. Florida may move forward with workplace safety agency in special session

The special session of the Florida Legislature is less than two weeks away. Among legislation likely to be introduced is a plan for the state to create its own workplace safety agency, replacing the Fed-OSHA, which is about to issue vaccine mandates. News4Jax
