South Carolina employer fined following two fatalities, two amputations in six months

Since a September fatality at a South Carolina manufacturing plant, S.C. OSHA has found multiple violations at the site, including around food processing equipment. The agency had had found nine violations at the company from 2014 until the first 2020 fatality. WBTW

 

Demolition company fined following power plant collapse that killed two, injured three

A Detroit-based demolition company is facing Fed-OSHA fines of more than $14,000 for the December collapse of a power plant in Adams County, Ohio where two men were killed and three people were injured. A former employee says the project was not well-supervised. WCPO

 

Fed-OSHA investigating death of dairy employee in Colorado manure pit

A 44-year-old employee of a Weld County, Colorado dairy operation died at a Greeley hospital after an industrial accident on March 30 in which he and another employee were operating a work vehicle that somehow drove forward into one of several waste lagoons at the facility. An advocacy group reports he had been employed at the dairy farm for six weeks and was being trained to operate the manure vacuum truck by the other employee at the time of the accident. Some businesses want masks on, even as states drop mandates

Eighteen states currently have no mask requirements, including some that have never made face coverings mandatory. Texas Governor Greg Abbott lifted his state’s mask mandate March 2, and Indiana expected to end its mandate on Tuesday. But many business owners are keeping their own rules in place.
