Virginia contractor dies after fall from tree

A 45-year-old Culpeper, Virginia man working as a contractor for a tree service company died Sunday after falling from a tree at a home in Springfield. He reportedly was 40 to 45 feet above the ground cutting off tree limbs, secured to a tree limb that he was standing on, when that limb broke. VOSH is investigating. Culpeper Times

Legal cannabis linked to rise in fatal car accidents

In a new study, Canadian researchers at McGill University have found legalizing cannabis leads to an increase in fatal auto accidents. Among cannabis users with a driver’s license, the study finds 13 percent admit driving within two hours of using marijuana. Fed-OSHA begins inspection of Florida lead factory

Following a Tampa Bay Times investigation that found hundreds of employees at a Tampa lead smelter were exposed to high levels of toxins for years, Fed-OSHA on Monday began investigating conditions at the factory, the first time it has inspected the site in the last five years. Times reporters found employees inside the factory had been exposed to air-lead levels hundreds of times above the federal limit, and many were issued respirators that were not strong enough to protect them when levels spiked.
