Fed-OSHA has opened an investigation into each of the three companies involved in a South Boston building collapse that injured three employees last week. Responders worked for more than three hours to rescue a construction worker whose legs were trapped underneath a wall after part of a historic power plant collapsed Wednesday while being redeveloped. Tampa Electric pleads guilty to violations in deadly 2017 slag explosion

Five contractors and one Tampa Electric Company employee were trying to remove debris from a slag tank at the Big Bend Power Station electrical power plant when an explosion of molten slag occurred in late June of 2017 . Two people died in the blast and three others later succumbed to their injuries while hospitalized. The utility has submitted a plea agreement in federal court, stating the company was guilty of violating Fed-OSHA standards that resulted in the five deaths. WTSP

 

Fed-OSHA cites two companies in fatal Georgia bridge collapse

Fed-OSHA has determined two companies failed to follow required safety standards that could have prevented a bridge collapse in Newton County, Georgia last October that occurred when an an overstressed section of the bridge that was being dismantled collapsed and fell into the river. During the collapse, a concrete saw weighing more than 1,700 pounds struck and killed a concrete contractor’s employee. A second employee was injured and had to be hospitalized. The Citizens
