Fed-OSHA fines contractor $247K for alleged violations at Pennsylvania site
Following a complaint, Fed-OSHA has fined a construction contractor working on a salt storage shed in Luzerne, Pennsylvania more than $247,000 for seven alleged violations, two of them classified willful, for failure to ensure employees using pneumatic nail guns had the appropriate eye or face protection; and lack of a guardrail, safety net or personal fall arrest system for people working more than 14 feet above the parking lot. Toledo grain facility cited after conveyor-related fatality
Fed-OSHA has fined a Toledo grain processing facility nearly $29,000 in connection with an April incident in which a 42-year-old employee became entangled in a conveyor system while loading grain into a railcar. One citation alleges the conveyor safety system lacked adequate protection to prevent its parts from getting damaged. Toledo Blade
Two injured in Florida truss collapse
Two people were injured last week in a construction accident in Parrish, Florida when a truss at a new home construction site collapsed. Employees fell at least 20 feet into the structure, and one appeared to have suffered a broken arm. Mysuncoast
Nevada OSHA promotes heat illness prevention
Nevada OSHA’s new heat illness standards took effect June 15. Recommendations for businesses include training and providing personal protective clothing and equipment, fans, shade or better ventilation, and allowing new employees to acclimate to the heat. News4
