New Mexico Seeking Comment on Proposed Heat Rule
- The New Mexico Environment Department is seeking public comments on a proposed rule that would require employers to establish, implement and maintain an “effective heat illness prevention plan” for indoor and outdoor workers.
- Comments are being accepted until May 30 on the proposed rule, which if implemented would go into effect July 1.
- The rule would apply to employers in general industry, construction and agriculture, as well as convenience store owners.

OSHA Launches #MirrorCheck Initiative to Raise Construction Backover Awareness
- OSHA said it has launched a nationwide #MirrorCheck initiative to raise awareness about preventing backover incidents and fatalities in the construction industry.
- Recognizing that construction sites are often noisy, with loud machines that can drown out safety alarms.
- If alarms aren’t loud enough over the ambient noise of work activities, workers may miss important warnings. Additionally, many workers wear hearing protection to prevent noise-induced hearing loss, making it even harder to hear alarms.
- The safety agency highlighted key safety steps, including adjusting mirrors properly, using spotters, installing backup cameras and sensors, and performing daily pre-operations inspections.

Lloyd’s Foundation Launches Safety Interventions Center
- Lloyd’s Register Foundation has launched the Global Safety Evidence Center with a more than $15 million investment over 10 years to improve global understanding of safety interventions.
- The new center will support research into what works to reduce harm, especially in high-risk sectors and regions where safety evidence is lacking.
- The Foundation has also announced a multi-million dollar funding call for occupational safety and health projects that address gaps in safety data, intervention effectiveness and evidence use in decision-making.
