NC Agency Never Visited Hospital on Nurses’ Violence Complaint
- The North Carolina Department of Labor never visited an Asheville hospital to investigate nurses complaints about workplace assaults before closing the matter.
- Nurses at HCA Healthcare-owned Mission Hospital filed a complaint last year that management had failed to act on the violence.
- However NCDoL told local media outlet Asheville Watchdog that it never visited the hospital to investigate due to staff shortages and a heavy workload.
- The nurses union at Mission are currently negotiating for stronger contract language to protect their members from workplace violence ahead of the expiration of the current contract on July 2.

Oak Ridge Group Names Two to Fill NIOSH Project Lead Roles
- The prime contractor to NIOSH on the Energy Employee’s Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) has named Jenni Hoff and Chris Tornes to acting lead roles.
- Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) has held the contract to process claims for ill workers and their survivors created by Congress in 2000.
- The compensation program covers workers in the U.S. nuclear weapons complex who were diagnosed with cancer.

Occupational Clinic Operator Concentra Heads for Stock Listing
- Concentra is being spun out under its own stock listing, according to regulatory paperwork filed by parent Select Medical Holdings.
- Texas-based Concentra operates about 550 stand-alone occupational health centers across 41 states, according to the filing.
- Those centers, along with about 150 on-site health clinics at employer worksites in 37 states and a telemedicine program in more than 40 states, generated about $1.8 billion in revenue last year.
- The transaction is expected to be completed by year end.
