OSHA Deletes 18 Workplace Safety Publications in DEI Purge: Report

  • OSHA has ordered the digital and physical destruction of 18 publications on workplace safety practices ostensibly for references to diversity, equality and inclusion, according to an internal February 7 email obtained by Popular Information.
  • The email says the publications have been removed from the OSHA website and tells staff that any physical copies should be “disposed of or recycled.”
  • One of the deleted publications is “OSHA Best Practices for Protecting EMS Responders During Treatment and Transport of Victims of Hazardous Substance Releases.”
  • Only one of the 18 publications, “Restroom Access for Transgender Workers, Best Practices,” appears to have anything to do with DEIA issues, according to the report.

Oregon Union Pushes Corrections, Behavioral Health Worker Safety Bills

  • The Oregon American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is pushing for the state to put more safeguards in place to protect workers in corrections and behavioral health jobs.
  • They are backing Senate Bill 24, which would set minimum staffing standards for health care workers in prisons and another proposal not yet introduced would limit mandatory overtime for Oregon Department of Human Services workers in group homes.
  • As well, the union is pushing for support of Senate Bill 606 that would broaden workers compensation benefits to automatically cover post-traumatic stress-related conditions for Oregon State Hospital employees and DHS group home workers.

Labor Officials Appointed for PR, Admin Roles

  • The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the appointment of Troy W. Finnegan as assistant secretary for administration and management, and Dean A. Heyl as assistant secretary for public affairs.
  • Finnegan previously served as executive secretary to the Secretary of labor, where he managed department correspondence and high-level administrative processes.
  • His legal experience includes working as special counsel at Akerman LLP and as general counsel for one of Florida’s Dr. Phillips Charities.
  • Heyl served in the first Trump Administration as the department’s director of the office of public liaison.
