EV Maker Rivian’s Single Plant Racks Up Outsized Safety Violations
- Electric vehicle maker Rivian has racked up 16 serious safety violations from OSHA within a 21-month period, according to a report by Bloomberg.
- The Normal, Illinois factory, Rivian’s sole production facility, has been the site of multiple severe injuries, including an amputated finger, a cracked skull, and a worker vomiting blue bile after painting without proper protective gear.
- These violations outnumber those of larger automakers like Honda, Volvo, and Ford, despite Rivian operating just one plant, according to the report.

OSHA Denver Office Renews Regional Emphasis Programs
- OSHA’s Denver office has renewed a series of Regional Emphasis Programs for the region’s six-state coverage area.
- The programs cover: automotive services: beverage manufacturing; grain handling facilities; roadway work zone activities; and, oil and gas industry facilities.
- Also renewed is a local emphasis program for aircraft support and maintenance.
- None of the programs, all of which are set to expire in October 2029, includes any significant changes.

Long Island Rail Conductors Sue Over Safety Issues After Attacks
- Seven current and former employees of the Long Island Rail Road are suing the transit agency over on-the-job attacks.
- The group said they were assaulted by train passengers and allege the railroad’s “negligence, carelessness and recklessness” led to the attacks.
- Each of the federal lawsuits concern attacks between 2021 and 2023, most of which stemmed from disputes over collecting fares.
- The railroad, the lawsuit alleges, has not done enough to protect employees collecting the fares. Union representatives said collecting fares has become a dangerous part of the job.
