Workers Followed Safety Protocols in Deadly Crash

  • A construction zone crash in Farmington Hills, Michigan resulted in the death of a road worker and serious injuries to two other Road Commission of Oakland County employees. 
  • An SUV crossed the median and struck the workers, who were conducting sewer repairs. 
  • The police report, released on Dec 3, indicated the road crew was parked legally with proper signage and safety precautions in place. 
  • The SUV driver was later arrested and charged with moving violations causing death and injury in a work zone.

Contractor Killed in Atlantic City Radio Tower Collapse

  • A contractor was killed Thursday in Atlantic City when a large section of a 310-foot radio tower collapsed. 
  • The incident occurred in the Venice Park neighborhood while three workers were performing maintenance on the upper portion of the structure. 
  • Two other workers escaped serious injury, but a separate piece of debris was left dangerously suspended near the top. 
  • Authorities have established a safety perimeter around the site as an investigation into the cause is now underway.

OSHA Finds Serious Safety Failures After Worker’s Asphyxiation Death 

  • Safety investigators cited engineering contractor Hyoungwon E&C America Inc. for deadly hazards at the Hanwha Q Cells solar panel plant in Cartersville, Georgia. 
  • The action followed the May 2025 death of 33-year-old worker Marion Jose Rugama.
  • Rugama was found unresponsive in a storage tank and an autopsy confirmed he died from asphyxiation by a nitrogen gas leak. 
  • OSHA issued two serious violations for failing to protect and train workers on these hazards.
