Gen Z Retail Workers Reluctant to Report Workplace Violence: Survey

  • Almost half of Gen Z retail workers would only report workplace violence if they could do so anonymously, according to a recent survey by online compliance training provider Traliant.
  • Based on a survey of over 500 full-time U.S. retail employees, the report found almost half (49%) of Gen Z retail workers said they would only report a scenario where they feared for their own or a coworker’s safety if they could do so anonymously, compared to only 19% of Baby Boomers. 
  • Only 38% of retail workers feel their employers are extremely supportive in promoting a speak-up culture, where employees can report misconduct without fear of retaliation. 
  • Almost all retail workers (94%) agree that other states should adopt policies similar to New York’s Retail Worker Safety Act.

NY Foundry With History of Safety Violations Now Faces $1 Million in New Fines

  • A 150-year-old Solvay foundry faces $990,186 in fines for more than two dozen new violations found by OSHA federal inspectors.
  • Frazier & Jones has been cited for four “willful,” 13 repeat, seven serious and three other-than-serious workplace safety violations following an inspection in October.
  • exposing employees to the risks of fire and explosion, thermal and chemical burns, falls and other hazards.
  • The company is contesting the fines and violations.
  • Last year, inspectors cited the company for two serious violations. In 2021, the company reached a settlement agreement with the department and agreed to correct 60 violations identified in 2019 and pay $276,189 in penalties.
  • The historic foundry casts components for use by the automotive, construction, electrical, natural gas, oil and gas, rail, tool and utility industries.
